Fixed Income Securities

Fixed income securities are those investments that yield fixed income. All bonds are fixed income securities. Stocks are not fixed income securities because stocks do not guarantee fixed income. Fixed income securities are considered safer investments than other types of investments.

Below are some examples of fixed income securities.

Government fixed income securities: government securities are the safest types of fixed income securities because the securities are backed by the full faith and credit of the government. US Government fixed income securities include Treasury bills, Treasury notes, and Treasury bonds.

Agency fixed income securities: some bonds such as Fannie Mae, Sallie Mae and Freddie Mac are fixed income securities backed by the agency of the United States government.

Municipal fixed income securities: These fixed income securities are the safest of fixed income securities.

Zero coupon fixed income securities: These fixed income securities pay no interest but are sold at deep discounts.
